I started looking at the data and models at 5:00 am. The forecasts are showing a chance of severe storms in the OK panhandle this afternoon, but the models are indicating a better chance from north of Tulsa into east central Kansas. I just sent an email to Justin to get his input. At this point, I'm going to say I'm watching the system as it moves north to south and we'll see what happens. At a minimum, it looks like this could be nothing more than a rain event. But, as it does in Oklahoma, this could turn as we get heating through the day.

It looks like, if there's a chance, it'll be in the panhandle of OK/TX. I think we'll activate in an hour or two and head west.

This is what the NWS is saying:

A BETTER OPPORTUNITY FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND SEVERE WEATHER
WILL COME EARLY THIS EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. A POTENT
WEATHER SYSTEM FOR EARLY SUMMER... WILL DIVE OUT OF THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES...BRINING A SIGNIFICANT COLD FRONT INTO CENTRAL
AND WESTERN KANSAS THIS AFTERNOON. A SURFACE TROUGH AXIS WILL ALSO
SET UP IN THE EASTERN PANHANDLES...NEAR THE BORDER WITH WESTERN
OKLAHOMA. STRONG HEATING AND RELATIVELY DEEP GULF MOISTURE SHOULD
ALLOW FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE TROUGH...AND WIDESPREAD
STORMS NEAR THE FRONT. TURNING WINDS WITH HEIGHT WILL COMBINE WITH
STRONG INSTABILITY TO PRODUCE AN ENVIRONMENT FAVORABLE FOR
ORGANIZED...AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING STORMS. DURING THE
EVENING...SUPERCELLS WILL CARRY THREATS FOR VERY LARGE HAIL AND
LOCALLY EXCESSIVE WIND GUSTS. AS STORMS BECOME MORE NUMEROUS
THIS EVENING THEY WILL LIKELY FORM INTO A LARGER THUNDERSTORM
COMPLEX. INITIALLY THE COMPLEX MAY MOVE EAST AND SOUTHEAST BUT
WILL EVENTUALLY PROPAGATE SOUTHWARD AS THE LOW LEVEL JET INCREASES
THIS EVENING. DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE
THE PRIMARY THREATS WITH THE STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS.

We'll have to see. Stay tuned.

Currently in Woodward, heading back towards the east to intercept supercell. I'm not being tracked, since I'm not showing up on the tulsa radar, so if you want to see where we are, look at the spotter network. I'll post more later.

The only warning box has expired (east of Alva). Now looking for our next move, waiting on the cold front to move south. So far, it's a non-event.

I finally arrived home at 4:00 a.m. after 622 miles, and pretty much a bust run. Rain and T-storms will continue today in NE OK and SE KS. I'll keep an eye on things, but I question any major development, other than rain.

A new watch was issued:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
628 IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON for much of NE OK.
